What is Kinshi?

1. Kinshi is sawfdust colonized by mushroom mycelium. The mushroom mycelium decompost raw sawdust in order to make them edible food for your stag beetle larvae and long horned beetle larvae.

2. It is a premium food for many species of stag beetle larvae and long horned beetle larvae. Offering kinshi will significantly shorten larvae period and significantly increase the size of larvae. Using kinshi will allow hoobyst to raise major males more easily. It is also a bedding and housing for your beetle larvae!  Kinsih is also a premium food for isopod

3. For very specific species of stag beetles, kinshi is essentail in order for females to lay eggs in.

4. There are many types of mushrooms which can make colonize sawdust to make kinishi but gerneally we have 2 big categroeis of kinish: hiratake (oyster) and kawaratake (turkey tail). Both types of kinish are genreally accepted by all types of stage beetle larvae and long horned beetle larvae.

  • Hiratake: this type of kinishi is generally accepted by Dorcus, Prosopocoilus, Phalacrognathus, and Hexarithus speceis.
  • Kawaratake: This type of kinish is generally accepted by the speceis described above and this is the only kinishi type which will be accepted by Allotopus and Mesotopus speceis.

5. Kinshi should not be used on Lucanus and Cyclommatus speceis.
